The Long Ride Home

It was time for my fantastic trip to the Sawtooth Mountains to come to an end.  The last two days were basically just making miles through the vast, hot Nevada desert.  There is not much in Twin Falls, except the Snake River is a pretty amazing sight:

IMG_0851From Twin Falls, we rode back to Winnemucca.  We arrived kind of early in the afternoon but with the heat (97 degrees) that was okay by me.  I went swimming in the cold pool, and that felt like heaven.

The next morning we were up early to once again have breakfast at The Griddle.  This was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a long time.

And yes, I ate it all.  We then decided to head down 95 to 50 and make our way to Mike’s cabin in Twin Bridges, which is just outside of Lake Tahoe’s south shore.  This was a windy ride but it was only about 200 miles which made for an easier morning.  We arrived around 1 pm after getting some sandwiches at the deli.

We hung out until about 5 pm, just resting and waiting for Sacramento/Bay Area traffic to die down.  At 5 pm we hit the road.  Once in Sacramento, Mike exited off to go home and we waved at each other as I kept the throttle going, heading west on 80.  I hit a few traffic jams due to an accident but other than that it was smooth sailing.  I pulled in the driveway at 8:30 pm, JAC waiting for me and the kitties too.  It was good to be home after logging just over 2,000 miles.

mileageI walked in the house with a tan face, dirty clothes, muddy bike and a big happy smile.  A wonderful trip but good to be home.  Until the next adventure, *cheers* and thanks for reading!

  1. What a wonderful trip. I’d say it was an adventure of a lifetime but knowing you, it’s just one of many more to come.
I’ve been to some of those places. So beautiful, it’s pretty difficult to head back home. Yes, Craters is pretty amazing. And that tree on top of the cinder cone……..pretty special.
Thanks for sharing. And great write up and pictures.
